First day in Mexico

Amsterdam Airport in the morning before i got on the
plane for Mexico
Last night i came to Mexico City. I had a good flight and after waiting 2 hours in line in immigration i was welcomed into Mexico. Here i was greeted by Lupita, her mom and her little brother. We went to their apartment that lies around an hour in car from the airport.

It's in an area outside of the metro system, but they are building tracks above the main road and from what i hear they are planning to open in July.

Good to be back!
Today i went out with Lupita and two of her friends that we both know from Mazatlan. We went to visit a museum. The entrance for them costs 5 pesos each, but i had to pay 55 because i wasn't from Mexico, still i don't think it was expensive though. The museum had paintings by the famous Mexican painter Diego Rivera, i have liked some of his pictures even before I had ever been in Mexico, so it was cool to see them in real life.

Having fun
After that we walked around and went to a place called Coyoacan where we found something to eat. We wanted to go to the movies, but unfortunately it would be too late for me and Lupita to find a bus home, so we went home. In the bus neither of us recognized the way we were going, so at one point we agreed that we would get off in the next stop. Then luckily Lupita started recognizing the area we were driving in and we stayed on the bus and got home safe :)

Within the next couple of days Lupita and I will go to Chiapas (where Lupita have lived most of her life) and visit some of her family and friends for a little while before we join the team in Mexico City.

So far I really enjoy being back in Mexico. There are so many good things here, friendly people, sun, warm weather, Lupita and good food, just to mention a few :)

Famous very expensive Mexican dogs that were worshiped by the Aztecs. Here they were standing completely still so that from the distanceyou couldn't tell dog from the statue :)

Preparations - Forberedelser

Today there is only 3 days until i leave Denmark to go to La Ciudad de Mexico :) I'm leaving early Tuesday morning at 6 and I have a layover in Amsterdam before i'm on my way to my final destination.

This is an improvement compared to last January where my 43 hour trip took me through Copenhagen, London, New York, Huston and Mexico city before i arrived in Mazatlan. I'm thankful that Aalborg Airport a few months ago made this new route to Amsterdam. This makes my life so much easier and I'm convinced they did it just for me and Lupita :)

Why i'm going
This map shows Mexico with the blue pointer in Mexico City
For the people who don't know the reason that I'm going to Mexico once again is that Lupita and I have decided to go join a pionnering project in Mexico city. The project is to start a YWAM base/school in Mexico City. The leader of this vision is a good guy called Chris who was my DTS (Disciple Training School) leader in Mazatlan. He has been working with the vision for some years and now it's finally time. The team consists of people from the YWAM Mazatlan base, where several are from my own DTS.

The project is really exciting and Lupita and I look forward to join Chris' and God's vision for Mexico City.

Things to do
My departure Tuesday means that i have to start preparing for leaving Denmark again. I've after searching for some time finally decided for a travel insurance. I choose one from Gauda that doesn't cover small things but cover the big and important things, so i just pray that i won't need it :)

So that is one thing that i can cross off my todo list which by the way i feel is alarmingly short, but i think it will get longer through today and tomorrow.

Since new year I've been working to earn just a little more before i leave. My financial situation right now is fine for the first months in Mexico, but after that i hope that i find a way to have enough money to pay the staff fees (that covers living and food at the base). I'm going to write to a christian found that my little brother told me about. I hope they want to support me, but I've been waiting to write them because i still don't have a complete overview of what my monthly expenses will be in Mexico even though i have a good idea. Also if anyone knows a found that they think would support this project i'm more than interested in hearing from you.

With the money i'm happy that the exchange rate has been changing a little in favor of my danish dollars :)

January 2011 - 100 DKK = 210 Pesos
December 2011 - 100 DKK = 251 Pesos
January 2012 - 100 DKK = 231 Pesos

So it went down a bit, but still better than last January.

All in all I'm excited to get to Mexico, and i'm especially excited to meet Lupita's family and spend some time with them and Lupita before we go to join the team.
